3 Easy Antioxidant Smoothies

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

We all know that antioxidants play a big role in our health. They fight against free radicals, this way our bodies can be protected from different diseases.

Also, what is the most important meal of the day? BREAKFAST! Well, let's start the day right, shall we?

These 3 easy smoothies are the perfect way to start the day, packed with not only antioxidants, but vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber, all that good stuff our bodies need. They are so easy to make, the ingredients are not some fancy ones (we have fancy ones too, but those are totally optional hehe), and you can have them as an afternoon snack as well.

Let’s get to know our ingredients:

Blackcurrants are not only highly rich in vitamin C, but they are also high in antioxidants and anthocyanins. These can help strength your immune system, soothe sore throats, and ease flu symptoms. Blackcurrant seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a type of omega-6 fatty acid that’s been said to help ease inflammation in the body.

Bananas help restore glycogen levels and help with muscle recovery. They contain several essential nutrients and provide benefits for digestion, heart health and weight loss. They are also a good source of potassium and fiber, and they help keep you full for longer.

Chia seeds are a great source of omega 3 fatty acids which help raise HDL cholesterol, the “good” cholesterol that protects against heart attack and stroke. They are also rich in antioxidants, and they provide fiber, iron, and calcium.

Baobab is a tree native to certain regions of Africa, Arabia, Australia and Madagascar. Powdered baobab contains many important nutrients but is especially high in vitamin C, vitamin B6, niacin, iron and potassium. Baobab is also high in fiber, with most powdered preparations packing around 4.5 grams of fiber into each tablespoon (10 grams), this way it will keep you feeling full for longer.

Acai berries grow on acai palm trees in the Amazon rainforest. They're processed into a pulp before eating. Acai berries contain healthy fats and low amounts of sugar, as well as many trace minerals and plant compounds. This berry is incredibly rich in antioxidants, boasting three times the amount found in blueberries.

Pomegranate arils are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and bioactive plant compounds, but they also contain some sugar. The punicalagins in pomegranate juice have been shown to reduce inflammation, one of the leading drivers of many serious diseases, including cancer and diabetes.

Ashwagandha is a prominent herb in Indian Ayurvedic medicine and has become a popular supplement due to its health benefits. It can reduce blood sugar levels, it has anticancer properties, may help reduce stress and anxiety, may increase muscle mass and strength.

Maca is a medicinal plant that mainly grows high up in the mountains of Peru in harsh conditions. Maca root powder is high in carbs and rich in a number of nutrients, including vitamin C, copper and iron. It also contains many bioactive plant compounds. It may boost sports performance and can improve your mood.

Mango is low in calories yet high in nutrients — particularly vitamin C, which aids immunity, iron absorption and growth and repair. It is also rich in antioxidants, it boosts immune system, support heart health and it is super easy to add to your diet.

Matcha contains the nutrients from the entire tea leaf, which results in a greater amount of caffeine and antioxidants than typically found in green tea.
